Why I became a Virtual Assistant
My name is Fiona Doonican, a Virtual Assistant based in Hazlemere, Buckinghamshire. I have a background of over 30 years experience as an Event Organiser, Executive Personal Assistant and Administration Manager.
I have worked for large and small companies, both in offices and from home. Over the years I noticed that many small businesses struggle to keep on top of their admin, whilst doing their everyday job. Their focus is on building their business, but they can rarely afford to employ someone full time to run the administration side of things.
Being a single Mum, I am used to multi-tasking and running a tight ship! If I’m honest, I am a bit of an organisation junkie! I am always the go-to person when someone needs something done, from events, parties and holiday bookings, to spreadsheets, letter writing and invoicing. I have even been known to organise a memorable funeral or two!
Deciding to become a VA was a pivotal moment in my life. Many office jobs come with restrictions, politics and personality clashes, whereas the life of a VA gives me the flexibility to do what I love with people I like at times and in places that suit me. The resulting work-life balance is perfect.
Who do I work with?
Recently, one of my clients called me “The Lady who can, but without the Van”. I really like this analogy. My clients range from child-minders and teachers to consultants and board members. I love working with creative people and feel an immense sense of pride when I see them breathe a sigh of relief when their office work is up to date. My work is always varied and sometimes challenging, but I am never happier than when I am “getting stuck in” to a project.
What can I do for you?
