As a child, when people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, my answer was always “a mummy”! When I left school, I still had no real idea of what I wanted to do as a career or even what I was good at. My parents insisted that I take a secretarial course as “something to fall back on”. Well, I am delighted to say that I fell back and never got up!
I was lucky enough to travel to Australia for a year and worked in Sydney for an entertainment agency, travelling the country with bands and working as a PA to the director. It was awesome and my love of travel (and bands) has been with me ever since.
When I returned home, I worked for the BBC as an administrator on a programme called Drugwatch with Esther Rantzen. It was a great beginning to my career, as I also got to be a runner on the first Children in Need and met loads of really lovely people. From there, I worked at some very large companies from Rank Xerox in the finance department, to British Airways as project co-ordinator for the Boeing 777 aircraft.
It was at this point, that I fulfilled my childhood dream and took a career break to have my 2 wonderful children.
As soon as they were at school, my VA story really began. I had been away from the job market for some time and it was hard to find a job that allowed me to work school hours so I set up as a Virtual Assistant, allowing me to work remotely from anywhere I wished. My clients over the years have ranged from a Marketing agency to a Caribbean property developer, and many small business owners such as Childminders, teachers and Consultants.
I love to learn and I read constantly. I am creative and became a qualified Event and Wedding Manager in 2011. I am now studying Bookkeeping and Music Copyright Law and to cap it all, I am walking a section of The Great Wall of China in October for the NSPCC!
